IfthenPay integration

Creates Multibanco references and MB WAY requests, then handles the payment callback to close orders and invoices on its own.

Overview

IfthenPay

IfthenPay is a Portuguese payment gateway built around the local methods: Multibanco references, MB WAY, Payshop and cards. Accounts are organised in entities and sub-entities, with a separate key for each payment method.

Tejobit connects IfthenPay to wherever the charge starts, such as an online shop, a booking area or a membership back-office. The connection requests the reference or the MB WAY payment at the right moment, sends the details to the customer and listens for the callback IfthenPay fires once the money arrives.

On confirmation the order changes status, the certified invoicing software issues the document and the customer gets a receipt. Nobody needs to check the IfthenPay backoffice to find out whether a reference has been paid.

Use cases

What it is for

  • An online shop that shows a Multibanco reference at checkout and ships only after payment clears
  • A tutoring centre that bills monthly fees with references that carry a due date
  • A holiday rental that asks for the deposit by MB WAY right after the booking
  • A sports club that issues membership fee references and keeps the members list up to date
  • A gym that pushes an MB WAY request to the member's phone when a plan renews
IN

What the connection listens to

  • IfthenPay payment callback, checked against the anti-phishing key
  • A new order, enrolment or booking in the source system that needs charging
  • Status changes on an MB WAY request (accepted, declined or expired)
  • References close to their expiry date, checked on a schedule
OUT

What the connection does

  • Create Multibanco references per entity and sub-entity, with amount and expiry
  • Send MB WAY requests to the customer's mobile number
  • Mark the order or booking as paid and store the payment date
  • Ask the invoicing software to issue the invoice-receipt
  • Alert the team when a payment fails or a reference expires

How it works

From the request to a working connection

  1. 01

    Request

The form names the integration, the tools involved and what should happen in each case.

  2. 02

    Review and proposal

Tejobit confirms what the API allows and sends a proposal with the flow, the price and the timeline.

  3. 03

    Setup and testing

The connection is set up with the business's own accounts and tested with real cases before it goes live.

  4. 04

    Maintenance and monitoring

Tejobit hosts the connection, follows up on errors and adapts it when the API changes.

The connection runs on Tejobit's infrastructure. The monthly fee covers hosting, monitoring and API changes.

What to prepare

  • An active IfthenPay contract and the Multibanco and MB WAY keys you plan to use
  • A request to IfthenPay to switch on the callback, with the anti-phishing key set
  • Rules for reference expiry and for what happens to unpaid orders
  • Access to the source system (shop, bookings or back-office)

For security, do not send passwords, API keys or tokens through the form. Credentials are requested through a secure channel when the setup starts.

Limits

  • IfthenPay support enables the callback, so it is not instant
  • An MB WAY request expires within minutes if the customer does not approve it
  • IfthenPay collects the money but does not issue invoices; the certified software does

Frequently asked questions

Before you start

How is the IfthenPay callback secured?

Each callback carries an anti-phishing key known only to the account. The connection rejects any call without it and checks the amount and reference before marking an order as paid.

Can one connection handle both Multibanco and MB WAY?

Yes. Each method has its own key at IfthenPay, and the connection picks the method based on what the customer chose at checkout or on the invoice.

What if a customer pays an expired reference?

That depends on how the entity is set up. The connection records any payment that arrives and flags the case, so the team decides whether to fulfil the order or refund it.

Does IfthenPay issue the invoice?

No. IfthenPay handles collection. The invoice is issued and reported to the Portuguese Tax Authority by the certified invoicing program, which the connection feeds with the payment data.
