Twilio SMS integration

Reminders, confirmations and notices sent by SMS through Twilio whenever something happens in a booking, appointment or payment.

Overview

Twilio SMS

SMS is still the most universal channel: it reaches any phone, with no app and no mobile data. For appointment reminders, delivery notices or booking confirmations it often gets read more reliably than anything else, especially by older customers.

Tejobit connects Twilio Programmable Messaging to the company's systems. The connection sends the text at the right moment (24 hours before the appointment, when the parcel leaves, when a payment fails), takes Twilio's status callbacks to know whether it was delivered, and handles replies, including requests to stop.

In Portugal and many other countries you can send from an alphanumeric sender such as the brand name, which builds trust. The trade-off is that it cannot receive replies; when customers need to confirm by text, a number is used instead.

Use cases

What it is for

  • A dental or physio clinic sending reminders the day before.
  • A holiday rental sending the door code on arrival day.
  • A delivery firm or shop sending the delivery time window.
  • A gym warning about a cancelled class or an overdue membership fee.
  • Verification codes for a customer portal login.
IN

What the connection listens to

  • Events from bookings, calendars, orders or payments in other systems.
  • Scheduled jobs, such as reminders sent a fixed time before an appointment.
  • Twilio status callbacks (sent, delivered, undelivered, failed) and inbound texts.
OUT

What the connection does

  • Send personalised texts through a Twilio Messaging Service.
  • Record each message's delivery status in the source system.
  • Process replies such as YES or NO to confirm or cancel appointments.
  • Block sends to numbers that opted out.

How it works

From the request to a working connection

  1. 01

    Request

The form names the integration, the tools involved and what should happen in each case.

  2. 02

    Review and proposal

Tejobit confirms what the API allows and sends a proposal with the flow, the price and the timeline.

  3. 03

    Setup and testing

The connection is set up with the business's own accounts and tested with real cases before it goes live.

  4. 04

    Maintenance and monitoring

Tejobit hosts the connection, follows up on errors and adapts it when the API changes.

The connection runs on Tejobit's infrastructure. The monthly fee covers hosting, monitoring and API changes.

What to prepare

  • A funded Twilio account in the company's name (texts are billed by Twilio).
  • The alphanumeric sender or phone number to use, registered in Twilio.
  • The wording of each message and timing rules, for example never after 9 pm.
  • A lawful basis for texting each customer, such as consent or an existing contract, under GDPR.

For security, do not send passwords, API keys or tokens through the form. Credentials are requested through a secure channel when the setup starts.

Limits

  • An SMS holds 160 characters, but accented letters outside the GSM alphabet switch encoding and cut each segment to 70, so longer texts cost more segments.
  • Cost is per segment and per country, charged by Twilio and not part of the monthly fee.
  • Alphanumeric senders cannot receive replies, and some carriers may overwrite the sender.
  • Delivery receipts depend on the carrier; delivered does not mean read.

Frequently asked questions

Before you start

Why do some texts cost more?

Characters. Plain text fits 160 characters per segment; with certain accents or emoji it drops to 70. The connection can tune messages to fit fewer segments.

Can customers reply?

If messages go out from a phone number, yes, and replies reach the connection. From an alphanumeric sender such as your brand name, replies are not possible.

Can I send marketing campaigns by SMS?

Technically yes, but it needs explicit consent and an easy opt-out. Campaign tools like Brevo usually fit better; Twilio shines at transactional notices.
